To cut a long story short...If someone i was following after he nearly made me crash goes through a red light, smashes into a car coming out a car park because of his stupidity, kicks my car when i go past him leaving the whole rear quarter dented and runs off only to come back when the police turn up,what sort of claims do i have regarding the cost of the damage to my car?

Get the police involved, then see if your policy covers vandalism?

Kicking your car - criminal damage.
His crash - up to him.
You following him - not illegal unless there's some propensity to harm or harass. Why were you following him?

None. Find where he lives and burn him......
That or break his legs..... You'll have more fun if you take your mates with you.

tbh, its that complicated, your insurance company are really the people you should talk to and have them sort it out. thats what you're paying them all that money for.
Though unless witnesses to the damage he did, regardless of what else he did, you're probably going to get no-where.

I reckon Ian sounds on the money mate. By the person you were following I'm guessing you mean the person in front.

The reason i was following him was because he cut me up in a road that 2 lanes merge into one and slammed on his brakes for a red light,so i tooted my horn to see if he would pull in but he didnt, just kept slamming his brakes on,but pretty much nearly drove me off the road. The polce were involved and i had 5 people in the car and he had 2 in his.But then another motorist who he went flying past through the red light who wasn't hit can vouch for him speeding saying he was doing at least 60mph in a 30mph zone, and there was queues of traffic watching him give it legs up the road with me following him after he kicked my car but I do have 5 witnesses from my car.Its more the fact it is going to cost hundreds to fix as the dent is soo deep I have a feeling the paint will crack if pulled out

Why did you want him to pull in?
Because you had 5 mates in your car?

Not because I had 4 mates in my car no,to see what the fuck he was playing at because I'll even admit the 2 boys in the car could have probably knocked all 5 of us about if he really wanted to

Still not clear why you followed it, it's not going to achieve anything. Up to him to make a complaint about that though, you'll need to see where he goes with that.
You can't speak to the insurer about kicking the car as he's not insured against kicking. They don't cover that, it's a Police matter.

Yeh I thought that about the insurance too, that's why i thought I would ask and yes it probably was foolish of me to follow him but put yourself in my shoes and I'm fairly confident there would be alot of responses from people along the lines of my reactions,I was raging

I generally adopt the motto that at some point I'll need to write down the last five minutes of driving before something bad happens. I need those five minutes to look good for me.

They didn't look bad for me though, the first red light he went through i was sitting behind one car,the second was the lights he crashed at and i was stopped at the lights with the security gaurd from the building at the side of the road looking out the doors to see that, and a car along side me as it was 2 lanes to go straight on at the lights, although whether she was questioned by the police i'm not sure because it took bout 15 minutes for them to appear on scene
