is it worth buying a deisel car to just do day to day run arounds in? or would i b better off with a petrol? just thinkin about the fuel and costs. use a astra SRi 2.0 and a golf 1.9 GT TDi for examples

I'd say no.
Given the higher price of diesel, it'd take ages to pay back the difference in cost of buying them.

I'd say yes, definately petrol.
You're only doing about 10000 miles a year and for the cars you're looking at it'd take something like 2 or 3 years to pay off the difference in buying them.
