2: Is there any shampoo's which doesnt leave watermarks? as im in a hard water area.
3: whats the best wax for a black car?... as the last 3 i have used leave smears.
4: is there any anti-static product i can use to stop the dust sticking to my car after ive polished/waxed?.

yes.

it answers 2 - megs gold class doesn't leave watermarkets on my car unless it's very hot and sunny (any shampoo would then).

and 3 - best wax for a black car. i tried autoglym SRP on my blac corsa which was also good, but collinite seemed to be easier to apply and give a better finish.

If your buying your gear from Halfords I guess then get the following and do the following.

Autoglym bug stuff, forgot the actual name of it, its in a spray bottle.
Apply it before wetting the car and let it soak in.
Clean the car with pretty much any shampoo, although Id recommend Megs NXT if your going to Halfords.
Then the trick to drying the car without water marks is to spray a quick detailler fluid over the wet paint work and dry and buff it with microfibre towels. Should eliminate any water marks.

A clay bar kit after cleaning would be a good move too to get rid of any tree sap or contaminants that also can cause water marks etc when drying a car. Clay will get rid of those films and should leave a non blotchy finish after cleaning.

The reason you have had grease and streak marks from wax is probably literally due to what ive said 'greasy deposits' which are in the wax and show up most on black cars.
So... Buff off what you can of the wax and then use quick detailler again and buff that off, that should get rid of the streaks.

As for anti-static im unsure.

Hope that helps

with the help of

Best way of getting a water mark free finish is when drying the car spray some detailing spray on the area you're about to dry as that will eliminate any smears.

3: whats the best wax for a black car?... as the last 3 i have used leave smears.

I personaly recomend http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/chemical-guys-pete-39-s-53-paste-wax/prod_337.html

nope that's just a pain. unless you just give the car a final wipe over with an anti-static cloth. i certainly wouldn't be putting mr sheen on my car

Because without properly machine polishing the paint work, and testing depth levels etc you will never get rid of the swirl marks and imperfections. Theres clean, and there is super clean - the extra is worth it

either a sponge with cotton mesh, or a clay bar (after first wash)
2: Is there any shampoo's which doesnt leave watermarks? as im in a hard water area.
irrelevant if you're going to polish afterwards anyway, as the polish will rectify them
3: whats the best wax for a black car?... as the last 3 i have used leave smears.
i just got collinite 476. used it once, but it was easy on, easy off and gave a good shine/ no smearing. what do you use to apply/buff?

any wax is like a protectant layer, and if you polished first, then the paint will be nice and smooth. use a duster to remove the dust

I can see what you're saying, but when you talk about 'detailing' you're talking paying at least £100, not just some products from Halfords

cheers for the info guys,
i wasnt too sure about using my claybar on the flies - as they would most likely contaminate the bar?

found this too for anti-static - anyone tried it?

different products do different things though.

autoglym SRP will cover up light swirls. but then you get abrasive polishes aswell and non abrasives.

it's not just a simple ''i want that one'' choice really

well I agree to some degree of the matter; yeah autoglym srp is fairly good, doesnt do a hell of a lot, will cover up swirls with loads of work I guess but to be honest, without a machine, most products appear to be useless unless you have arms like popeye. I normally just wax with nattys blue, which brings my dark blue car up well. Also gives fair protection but collinite as mentioned, is supposed to be good and super durable. SRP is good once in a while I think, not every time you wash, more like once a month. Auto glym shampoo for me; seems ok. Washing the car out of direct sunlight and drying properly helps; I pat dry with a megs drying towel and can get no water marks. It also helps to wash a panel down and dry it all at once becuase as soon as a panel drys, there will be the marks
