Just about to book my travelling...
basically mid sept,
Fly into Bangkok, then hondai, Vietnam, Camodia, Thailand all the way down (full moon parties), random island hopping etc, then malaysia, then singapore, then australia (rent a camper and travel the east coast), then new zealand (whole island, sky dive, bungee jump), hong kong and then home!
Gonna cost a fortune, but will be fucking awesome.
Anyone got any recommendations of where to go?

p.s. I'm more interested in getting pissed, having a laugh with random travellers on beaches, than looking at temples and 'culture'.
Although we do have some random shit booked along the way, including looking at loads of random crap through cambodia etc. and staying in loads of jungles with random tribes

Thailand is a must mate!!! I went travelling summer just gone (LA, Hawaii, Fiji, Oz and up to Thailand then home was super)
Make sure you visit the islands (ko samui, koa pan yan (sp) and koa toa) so beautiful
Full moons a must on Koa Pan Yagn, i spent about 5 days there but you need to get there a good few days before other wise all the places to stay get booked!!!
If you got time go over to the west side and visit phuket and phi phi (filmed the beach there) all stunning.
Thailand is cheap as chips too!!!

Mate went out in Feb to travel after winning 10k on poker online. Hes now sold his car/ps3 and he recieved £1200 from a bet saying United will win the league, so hes now decided to stay out there for a year.
He has a job to £250 a month teaching english to 11-15yr olds for 3 hours a day. He says its not work really though he just fucks about playing football etc, also gets accomodatino paid for!
Lucky bastard!

out of interest, how much has that cost you to initially book it? that sounds almost identical to what i want to do

roughly about £6000 for about 4-5 months.
Hmm, out of interest to the people who have been? should I just not book anything, travel, accomidation, 'activities' etc and wait till i'm out there or what?
Basically STA offer loads of things where you do stuff for like 22 days, i.e. travelling to different locations, doing different things, staying different places / acommidation.
I think that'd be good, as otherwise I'd be wandering aimlessly, but on the other hand they only generally spend 1 or 2 days in a location before moving on to somewhere else?
I really want to go hop over onto all the islands and go to phuket etc, but I don't want to just breeze through on a trip, I want to spend some time around there.
So what do you suggest, book nothing? book some things but leave time to do your own stuff as well, or book loads of stuff as it'll be worth it?
Also how easy is it to travel and what would it be like to travel from bangkok to the lower thailand like phuket, islands etc.
What we're thinking is doing a 27 day tour from Vietnam, cambodia and north east thailand, then having about 2 weeks from bangkok to do what we like (i.e. take a trip down to phuket etc) - how long will this take? costs? how easy to find somewhere to stay?
and then go back to bangkok to take another 22 day trip all the way down through thailand, malaysia and singapore.

domestic flight is dirt cheap, i flew from bangkok to phuket for about £25. Always barter for taxis and Tuk-Tuks(little motortrike taxis). Bangkok is far too busy for my liking, had enough after 3 days.
Prefer the beaches, Krabi's a nice area and great for boat trips etc around the Phi-Phi islands.

and what about doing it yourself - i.e. working out where you want to go etc, or booking pre sorted routes / trips etc with the travel company?

you can get those random traveller plane tickets can't you.?
where you book the mileage and not specific destinations. turn up to airports and they fit you in where they can to cancellations and when they've under-booked etc.
sounds awesome either way. a mates brother in law runs a bar in thailand somewherre. can't remember the name of it at the moment.
