ok so its foolish its taken me this long to realise it but surely if we (voting public) all follow the Government advice and use public transport more, or even replace using our private vehicles with public transport, then the revenue lost would be massive.

just consider the costs of owning a car and how much the tax man takes as VAT in all of those out goings

Fuel, large chuck is VAT
Servicing, VAT on labour/parts
MOT, VAT on labour (i assume this can be VAT'd?)
Tyres VAT labour/parts
Road Tax= all to the tax man
Insurance, tax paid by the insurance company and its employees in the form of income tax

now imagine all the jobs that are dependant on the the motor industry.with lesser cars on the road there will be a lost of jobs as the market (demand) is much smaller (mechanics, tyre fitters, recovery men/women, Traffic Police, insurance companies, civil engineers, automotive engineers) with that increased number of unemployed people comes less income tax generated for the tax man, and a higher chance of benefits to be paid out.

ok so as private cars leave the roads there will be buses and coaches in their place and with it those jobs but a coach/bus can hold 30-50 people the numbers dont add up.

in short we should keep using our private vehicles for the financial security of the country!

it's flawed anyway as the public transport system wouldn't be able to cope with the amount of people if every single person used it

well yes of course but that in turn will cause further poverty...its an extreme case i know, blown up to a pessimistic view but seems to little sense to follow government advise and use public transport as it cant cope now, let alone if say 1 in 100 motorist converted across in the next 6months and will cause more expense along the line in the long run

It would never happen in a day though like that, personal transport will slowly be made that expensive to run it will gradually be phased out over many years, the same as it was phased in, cars have been invented since the early 1900's but wasnt affordable to the masses until 60's / 70's & has slowly beome a way of life where today everyone has a car, some more than 1. It will be phased out slowly mainly to enable oil stocks to be used for other means other than producing fuel for transport. People will have to use public transport as they wont have another choice, as the roads get less cluttered public transport service will be improved.
