Left my Spar convenience store job about 1 week ago, because I wasn't happy with how it was being run, the staff and all that jazz.
My other employer that started off as work experience has kind of let me down with regard to hours over the summer.
There is an Aldi store in Biggleswade, which has an advert for a Store Assistant in the window. Checkout out their website, and I seem suitable. Got Supervisor experience at Spar, Uni experience, team work experience at other employer, that sort of thing.
I have no doubt that I can do the work, but just wondered what they are like to work for? On their website they claim to be flexible, but when you come to say "oh I can't do this or that" for various reasons, how do they react? This is pretty important because of Uni.
Any info would be good, obviously from current employees?!

my mate works for aldi, he is a complete retard and works as a manager, the wage for normal staff isnt bad apparently (£7 odd) but if your till is even a penny out you get a pay cut and retrained etc. if you want any more details, u2u me and i can get him to call you.

good money. think it was £7.50 for a checkout operator when one opened up near me. but they only have about 2 operators on the tills so thats how they are able to pay more than other stores.

Yeah, the pay is good, which hasn't really attracted me, just that it's local and they are recruiting.
I know someone at Lidl who says they are strict with the tills etc. My till was hardly ever down at Spar so shouldn't be a problem.

exactly when ever you go in the store they never have enough staff so the few staff there seem to have to work hard

Aldi aren't bad because the pay is good, i have heard though that if they ask you to work and you can't/won't they get all gay about it

Also says about that on their website. I guess the only way they can make money is by reducing overheads etc. I don't mind hard work though. Would be on my feet for 8 hours at Spar continuously doing stuff. Plus you can either get 15 or 30 hours. I'd be hoping for 3 lots of 5 hours tbh.

no words or comments on Aldi but most of my uni holiday was spent with Pertemps. i walked into my local office explained my situation, what work i would be wililng to do and hours. they put me on the "industrial" list and work99% of the holiday (only had one day off) its not guaranteed work but its interesting having a different job each week. i was basically rotated between Bishops Move (removals) and 3663/Britvic/Morrels Beer multi-drop delievery as the drivers mate. it was typically a 0530/0600 start but other than removals was finished by 1400 and had the rest of my day to myself....may not be your thing but i really enjoyed it! best of luck

Company expects you to lay down your life on the line and ALWAYS be on standby to cover if need be no matter what is the feedback I got when I had a conversation with the store manager at my local store - forget that..

My mate's big brother was a sales assistant, moved to manager and is now Area manager.
He had the problem with being a bit of money out on the tills etc but he kept change in his pocket and used to put whatever it was to it. Might have been out of his pocket but better than a wage cut.
He's been on excellent money from the bottom to the top.
At the end of the day, Its the manager who decides if he wants to let you off or wants everyone to be on stand by for shift covers but it all down to one thing, Who the manager is.
You would run it different to how i would, But if the store manager is ok, It should be a good, easy, relatively well payed job with 99% chance of progression.

Same with everwhere though, I worked at Kwik fit and loved it, new manager came in and it was shit and they lost 6 staff in 3 weeks.
Same as you at Spar, The main man changes, So does everything else.

I'll ask him
He's a lazy cnut though and he loves it. Different stores win things like a trip to New York for the weekend and for Xmas nights out and stuff Aldi's pay for rooms in the Hilton and stuff. Seem good and there staff turnover isnt alot meaning people stay at there job in Aldi.
