Why do they all carry knives nowadays ffs, nobody was ever like that when I was at school. Seen countless fights and had a few myself when younger but the idea of using a weapon never entered our heads.

Simple solution is if you get caught carrying a knife (not even using it just having it on you) you get slung in a jail for 6 months. You'd be able to open more jails as the scum carrying the knives won't be entitled to their benefits and everyone is happy. Ta dah.

This is all bit of a media panic. Don't worry. It has probably always happened, but because of the odd 'bad one', they are more prominent in the news.
It's just a recurrent issue, much like health in schools and things like that.
Granted, it shouldn't be happening, but you need to question just how frequent they are compared with, say, 10 years ago

16 stabbings in London since January doesn't equate to journalist emphasis and media panic, knife crime is on the rise and it needs dealt with.

They aren't the only fatalities in London though, which is what you must understand. The press are only highlighting it because it's a current issue. I bet in 6 months you might not hear about it as much, but it's still going on.

But did london suffer 16 fatal stabbings of teens in the 6 months prior to January?? I doubt it.
