I did it years and years ago (when I was 14) as round me are 100's of farmers after people. It pays shite and is usually fairly hard work - and as you said its all foreigners now.

Yeah, Tarleton/Hesketh Bank is full of farms - also full of foreigners now who work on them
I worked doing everything, from driving the guys tractor, to making boxes and working in the greenhouses, to feeding his chickens and cleaning up the shite around the water thingies!

yeah i worked mere brow side of blackgate lane, if i had to do work like that now, all those hours it would kill me, it was about 110 degrees in the greenhouses in the middle of summer, and i only got about £2 an hour

I know
Good thing for me was I lived next door to the farm I worked on, so used to get up 5 mins before I was due in, and then jump over the water course between us and be there

i had to ride my bike there, back at dinner time, then back again after dinner, then home. once i was that tired i got in at 6.10pm and lay on my bed in all my shitty work gear and fell asleep, woke up and looked at the clock and it was 7.10pm, i thought it was 7.10 in the morning and ran downstairs and out of the door thinking i was late for work, my dad came running out asking what i was doing. i was ready for another full days work after an hours kip

i worked in a local slaughter house/ meat processing facility for four summer holidays in a row after my GCSEs.
it was really good money at the time and good banter. but with everything else, immigrant agency workers took over.

Me and a mate did it years ago over the summer before we went to Uni.
Picking Strawberries...
It was backbreaking work for crap pay. We were earning about £20 a day!!
We would get up at 5am to cycle to the farm..ready to start by 6.30am. Finish at 3pm completley knackered, covered in crap. It was evil. It took months to get the muck out of our nails etc.
But we joke that it made us the men we are today!!!

not on the above but i walked into my local Pertemps office. i had work 99.9% of the summer and although i didnt know what i was doing in two days time there was a pattern between removals, and drivers mate - just for different companies made it interesting having that change!
