Thinking of visiting London for a couple of nights in August. Not anywere in particular as you can get around on the tube easily enough. Where are decent places to stay that are reasnobally affordable i.e travel lodges and the likes?

travel lodge/travel inn/holiday inn will be the cheapest without going somewhere non mainstream (ie, dodgy BB's which are everywhere). If you are feeling flush then theres plenty of hotels in the west end which will take a chunk out of your wallet.

Ive been looking at travel lodges etc. look to be around 80 ish quid a night wihich isnt to bad really that's in near Covent Garden's.

yeah thats pretty much as central as you want to be mate Theres one in Camden aswell which is good.

Now I need to decide weather to drive down and park at a train station then get the train in or just get the train all the way in.

London is a total cunt to get round by car, with the conguestion charge and stuff. Not bad if you don't mind spending a few quid but at least if you get the train down and around town you are pretty confident on how much you are spending.

Train FTW. If you're talking about going to the West End and Covent Garden you can only park there for about 30 mins at the meters, on Sundays and Bank Holidays in permit holder places or at the hugely expensive NCP carparks. I'm talking about £100 a day for that too. No joke.
