go for the 1.6 if ur planning on entering leman because of the handling if ur doing banger racing get the xe this tends to be the general thoughts of people on this site.
personally id have the xe, not impressed with small block engines had 3 of them and they have all gone bang and my xe just ploughs on........

You really need to say what are you wanting from the engine and car before asking other people whats best. Majority of people will go for the 2 differant engines for totally differant reasons.
C20xe is a quick and cheap way to get more speed but then sacrificing the handling. whereas a lot of people including myself choose the tuned small block because then you have the speed aswell as keeping the handling but on that note you need a big budget.
