you know how in the crazy world of car forums there are always certain misconceptions and things that always have the piss taken out of them? For example the whole 'v-tec kicked in yo' and mazda MX5s. All the banter and shit that goes on, would it work on a t-shirt? would people who have not really experienced the banter go for it?
My friend is starting doing t-shirts and has showed me some ideas, his stuff is fine in a Matalan/George/Tesco kinda way, but thats not what he is going for. My idea was to try and capture the funny shit that you only get on a popular car forum, with it being mostly online i thought it might be quite popular, obviously if its done correct. Discuss

How many people use car forums?
How many people will under stand these terms?
Answer to both is...ALOT.
The people thats his target market are boy racers or 'car enthusiasts' and around 90% will use some form of forum and understand.
So.....Yes.

That's a great idea mate. If taken to car shows and track days (which are forever growing), which include more and more popular forums, then they should get sales!

V-Tec kicked in you is probably known on most forums. Would be a popular choice for the rice haters

It would most definitely work and they could also target 'club' forums and those with membership packs and so on.
I'd be wary of the quality of t-shirt and printing however. When I buy a relatively expensive t-shirt which you find at shows etc, they always seem to be shit quality after 1 wash. Also, the 'cut' of the t-shirt is crucial. This could see increased costs I know, but there should be a happy medium somewhere.
And don't limit to t-shirts, think of other merchandise such as mugs, pens, key rings and so on.

A few years ago i looked into it, the problem is that sometimes unless you really have a huge bulk order you wont compete with prices of highstreet t-shirts.
I looked at doing all the usual internet slogans, banter and one liner's but the problem is theres bigger business's out there that have it all in place and they will allways undercut you

It's as bad as covering your car in stickers saying what internet forum you waste your day reading.
