Sadly Robbo the content of what is in any of the qualifications is quite irrelevant. Managers will hire on academics/reputation rather than technical content.

I quite agree but again, an historic thing which will disappear over time

Can't comment on CIMA specifically but they're all going to require a LOT of work and committment.
Will work give you time all the time off to attend college or will it be weekend/evening study?

they have said that they will give me a few days off a week a couple of weeks before the exams, any other studying will be weekend and evenings

Its obviously very worthwhile and will increase your earning potential massively but studying without time off will be very tough. You'll be working all day then studying for hours at night and even at weekends.
I got months off work for mine (ACA) and it was still hard going.
Maybe an option is to get part qualified or at least a few exams passed and then look for a company that will give you a better study package. You'll be much more marketable with some exams under your belt.
