I'd have been

if I went to overtake a learner then had to struggle to get in, whether they accelerated or not.

I wasn't racing though

just a straight forward overtaking move. The space I had to overtake in was sufficient had the learner driver not been a dick. The fact it was a 1.2 bears no relevance to the post.

Any car can accelerate when another one is overtaking, just makes the gap to get back in smaller.

cant see them dropping down a gear either so either your car is slow or the new 1.2's are rapid

My car is not slow, well not that slow

1.6 sport.

As for the Learner, he wouldn't have had to "drop it" could have been already in 3rd/4th and put the foot down.
