I am provisionally selling one half of my rallye to my brother to split the costs and labour required to keep it going and share it as an ongoing track project. With this I will sign it into his name and buy a runaround for uni but I will be looking for something comfortable and reliable to travel long distances when need be. For this reason im thinking VAG probably VW like a polo? I havent looked at what I can get for my money yet but in short il have up to £1600 give or take and be looking for something up to insurance group 13 max. Please bare in mind my main priorities are reliability and desirability and for this reason particularly the first, a 106 GTI or VTS doesnt fit into this category although I have considered it, but im probably looking for something around 1.4 engine size, and the newest I can get. Even thinking about a Corsa!! So any ideas guys?? Cheers

Go for something late 90's, saloon, big engine - thats where the best buys are with your sort of money. My 1998 Vectra has never let me down. Passed its MOT with nothing needing done! And I regularly do 800 mile round trips in it.

RCS not sure I fancy something big but see where youre coming from, although the cheap ones tend to be high mileage. I am looking around 1997-2000 era. Looking at those cars now pow, im quite surprised what you can get around this price range as compared to when I passed 3 years ago. This looks pretty ideal...
