Make sure you buy a restored one then you know its going to be less maintainence in the forseable future.

I will own one once i get a garrage.

One of my fave cars of all time

5k will get you an absolute minter I would prolly go for a 3.5-4k budget and get a usuable one thats not concours otherwis you wont be able to drive it anywhere

finding one without rust and a non cracked dash will be challenging

Please not the mint engine bay which has the original airbox and all OE stickers nothing beats that. I really detest bling on RS engines!

And finanally the very car I almost went and got a 4k loan to go out and buy

As jr says try and find one from the RSOC

The one above was at 4500 and it had a full rebuild with Mahle pistons and headwork etc etc and has been restored three years ago.

Just I faced reality that I didnt have a garrage and running two cars was a bit of a push.

This is the sort of car you cant leave in normal places as the locks are only there to stop the doors flapping open on the motorway

Also its a bit industrial to drive such as heavy steering no PAS brakes take a bit of getting used to but its just a sense of occasion everytime you drive one and the noise of the egnine is superb.

Also there are some out there with the rose jointed ARB from an RS 1600i which makes them handle superb!

Stick with a custom which had all the elctrics etc and also make sure its got the original towing eye cover as they are rare as rocking horse shit.

you realise there a 20 year old+ car right. most of em break due to there hard lives, look after one and itll be fine.

s1s are good cars 4k will get you a fairly good one, i have seen concourse go for 10k.

great cars though, love my s2 to pieces so much fun.
