Wanting to know a bit about this. Got a few bits for my nova im going to be getting powdercoated. Now a mate mentioned today that it would be a good idea getting them shotblasted first. Couldnt tell me what it actually did. i have a rough idea of what it does, well i know it cleans it. But can anyone tell me what the process is? How much roughly and if its really worth it?

pretty much the same as sand blasting but not so corse, leaves a better finish, ideal for soft metal.

Definatly worth doing, removes paint / rust ect ... cleans its right back to bare metal, loads easier / quicker than using a wire brush / wet & dry ... pretty much all my bits were blast cleaned before painting / powder coating.

nooo, shot blasting of any decription on cam covers is madness IMO, and a risk, no matter how much its cleaned,

there has been 3 high profile engine deaths on here this year i can think of because of it

Not exactly difficult to clean things propperly, i've had cam covers, inlet manifolds, tophats, thermostat housings ect ... all blast cleaned and never had any probs. Regularly blast clean Turbo components at work, even seen engine blocks, gearbox casings done ... all cleaned propperly after blasting and no problems afterwards.

i do this for a living! The stuff we use is aluminium oxide. It will clean the metal remove surface rust and leave a nice finish for the powder to mate to. Despite what jr says you can blast rocker covers and such like. As long as its masked and cleaned properly afterwards.

As for price's a rear axel i would charge roughly £70 for blastin and coatin
