Im not looking for personal jibes or rants here, possibly even facts. But why, when oil is priced so highly these days ($105.1 a barrel this morning), do they still laze around in their 3.0l-7.0l petrol SUV jobbies? Is there a particular reason that all of their cars have to have huge engines? Or have to be massive so need engines that big to lug them around? Because we do fine over here in Europe with our small cars, infact, the small car market is probably our strongest and most competitive one?
Is there some sort of historical trend or a point in time?
Just something I was wondering about, cos if they all downsized surely the pressure on oil prices would alleviate slightly?
Edit - if this should of gone in GC, someone move it there for me

Big people
long straight roads
petrol is quarter the price over here so even if they are only getting half the mpg of the average car here, they are still going twice as far for their money.
When i was there a few weeks back it was $2.90 a gallon, I dont think they care.
Also not many small cars are as comfortable as their bigger cars (even astra's etc dont come close to the small car equivelent over there)

Neo got it with the first two lines.
And also they can't hold their gallon of coke in a small holder, they need a big car for a big holder.

If our petrol prices and insurance prices where as cheap as they are over there, then I doubt our small car market would be so strong.

Not many US car companies make "compact cars" (as they call them)
Terribley patriotic when it comes to cars, and everything else for that matter
What annoys me more is the people who drive hybrids, why don't they just buy a Golf TDI
