Its much harder to be behind someone trying to keep up, especially at night?
I find its because you cant set your car up ideally for balance and speed for a corner as your constantly having to brake, speed up etc to match what the other car is doing, and the fact the car is in your line of sight so you cant judge corners aswell either

Depends... If you know the road really well and know it's gonna be deserted (no traffic, pedestrians or cows) ... then yes being at the front you're gonna find it easier to leave the car behind.
However, if it's just some random road, or you don't know what MAY be around the next bend, it's easier to catch up imo... as the guy infront is going blind, he may go round a bend and get flashed by a speed camera or see a car on his side of the road.
You however catching up to the car infront can use their brake lights to give you warning that you need to slow down...
If I'm ever behind someone tho (like obviously quicker) I generally back off and give space anyway, as if they crash or need to stop, I'd be crashing into the back of them if I was on their bumper.

I'm the same Steve and yeah Paul that makes sense. On the roads I know its far easier following someone than on the ones i'm unsure on.

yeah this was a road that i know but never driven hard, so i didnt have much idea how the car would react on it
and its like a progressive corner up to a roundabout, i couldnt see where the roundabout was due to him being in front and the bank of the corner, whereas because he was in front he could.
I didnt want to leave it too late to start braking at those high speeds on a corner
