You should report the accident to the RSPCA.

If the cat didnt make it home then then the owner is likely to phone the RSPCA to see if they have taken any cats in within the area.

At least the owner will know the cat has been injured and has probably died... saves them wondering what happened, is he trapped - looking for it for days ect.

We had a cat ran over and the driver phoned the rspca to say he had hit the cat, it was dead, he couldnt see any owners tag on the animal and that he was very sorry but there was nothing he could do .He had taken it home and buried it -- My parents were really gratefull for the guy to reporting it to the RSPCA- At least they knew it was a quick and painless death
