Just to confirm 100% with somebody at work whos saying I can, buying new car Sunday without tax, I can't drive it home can I?

nope you cant but most places know this now and like when i got my car from vaux i had it taxed the day i picked it up

Which have to be used by employees of the garage, so you can't legally do that either.

tbh, we had a Primera last year, never had a tax disc holder just sat it on the dash, often fell off, never had any police attention we were driving that for about 7-8 months

this is because the anpr thing that the coppers have in there cars reads number plates your car is still going to be show as taxed even tho its on the floor. they can give a a fine for it tho.
tbh mate ide drive it home if your insured and have mot if you get stoped explane ur situation and that ur going to get tax asap they will either let u of or give u a 60 quid fine. if they wanted to be shitty they can impound the car

You can drive it to the mot station without tax I usually take a car im going to buy for a pre-mot anyway so i can tell properly if its a shitter

tax it by the phone, even tho you wont have a tax disc you get a reference number and if the coppers pull u just give them the ref, thats what happend to me.
