Possibly getting a new job, where it would mean motorway travelling, so would need a more sensible economical car.

I drove a 1.9 SRI Diesel Astra sport hatch at the weekend, and found it extremely comfortable and very smooth ride and acceleration, and was massively impressed.

I know some people think they look boring, but I think with the exterior pack and upgraded wheels, they look stunning aswell.

What are peoples opinions on these? Also, anone got any nice pics of them to convince me? Is there better out there in the market for similar money?

Cheers

Get the exterior pack and they look stunning, in most colours imho.

I'm trying to persuade dad to get one as he wants a more practical car.

I have no idea what the ride is like in the SRi but if I was doing lots of motorway miles, I might consider the Design model. As far as I'm aware, it's fully loaded but comfier. Don't quote me on it though.

Anyway, yeah, I'd have one, over say a Focus. For refinement however, I'd consider a Golf BUT they don't look as good, even in GT TDi guise.

That as well, I think the Astra is excellent value. I'd even consider the pre-facelift, to get just as good a'car but at less of a price.

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/equipment/Summary.aspx?model=1359 <- that seems slightly odd. It mentions some cars lose the alarm, but I can't see that myself

yeah I know re-map on a diesel is good increase, but 205 seems a lot. does he have other performance mods?

it would be the 1.9 150 if i was to go for it.

does the re-map increase mpg slightly aswell like on petrols?

exhaust, panel filter and airbox mods
doesnt increase mpg they say that if you drive exactly the same as you did now with the same accleration times etc, but you have more power, you want to use it so you will see a fall in mpg

edit:dtuk say you should get 206 bhp just from there box

driven the 1.7 diesel version and the 1.8 petrol, love the sports hatch, I would deffo have one if I had the dosh. the 1.9 has to be the ultimate one and I'd love to have a go in one lol.
They handle rather well, lovely ride. Only downside with the 1.7cdti was it really sounded like a tractor lol - no idea if the 1.9 is as bad?

And VXR grill. After having my red Corsa B, I'm adamant I won't have another red car, but the Sporthatch does look awesome in red.

Been looking at these recently as well as the 1.9 150 twintop.

Seem quite affordable to start with, but brand new twintops list at nearly £21k!

Sporthatch isn't much cheaper at £16.5k, but I think they both look much more interesting than the Mk5 Golf.

I'm trying to decide whether a brand new twintop on finance for £235 a month would be better than a 5 year old £12k petrol drinking S2000........

I'd pick one over a focus/golf

1.9 would be the one togo for I'd say, bar the VXR
