i dont know if anyone could help me out with this but does anyone know the currents UK laws on break times in a working environment.

i currently work 9 1/2 hours a day, 5 days a week. it would originally be 10 hours per day in another office for the same company. In a 10 hour day they offer a 1 hour unpaid dinner break but insist that because its down to 9 1/2 hours now that my dinner break should only be 1/2 hour. To be honest I think this is bullshit so wouldnt mind getting hold of some info to pull them up about - also, they say its company policy that i have my dinner in the office and do not permit me to go home or spend my dinner break the way I want to - due to it being "so busy"

any info would be greatly appreciated

in my opinion if your nto getting paid its your time to do what you want and as such think its out of order you have to stay "inprisoned against your will" (ie no pay) during your lunch.

if its so "busy" you cant go home, that would imply they expect you to work through your lunch...unpaid? i suspect so.

direct gov as jambo said, that sound well out of order

For every 4.5 hours you work you NEED to have a PAID 15 minute break.
