Just depends on the age of the engine and whether ther donor car needed a CAT at MOT time or not.

Ive always told the MOT garage that its a pre 1992 engine (even thought its not) and its passed every time, I dont have a cat on mine.

I suppose it depends on the garage you take it to if they want to be funny with it but this one is interested in the car and has no problem testing it as a 1991 car

I thought that the car only has to pass the emissions test for the year of the engine, not the car?

if its registered before 31/07/1995 then it doesnt need to pass a cat test with a XE/LET in.

all LETs need a cat as there after 1992

I've always said to the mot tester about the engine being pre 92, but they told me it goes by year of the car.
