iv got a 1.4 sport that iv had for about 2 years now and was planing on selling it in a couple of months and geting something faster ( 106 gti or saxo vts) but have decided iv spent loads of time and money on my corsa and dont want to get rid of it,and would like to put a xe in my corsa but i know this aint cheap to do so just wundering if its worth fiting a 1.6 sport or gsi engine insted and will it be much quicker than my 1.4????

It'll be quicker, yes, but it's only really worth doing if you're going to throw some money at the 1.6

better pick up lower down
but flat out wont be that much difference - or maybe my 1.4 was just a quick one????

I wouldn't bother. Go for XE/LET. I have a 1.6 Sport and want it faster.

I did that. It wasn't worth it, I would have been better off spending the £400 I spent on an inlet, chip and pipercross viper on a standard 1.6 engine.

I've just done the conversion from x14xe to x16xe, did it myself with friend so didnt cost very much. Easy conversion straight swap whereas the c20xe can be a pain and costly with conversion kits etc
i have an inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, bmc,cda and a decat that are reused form the 1.4.
To add to that i will soon have 264 cams and dastek unichip with 7200-7500rpm and im expecting quite good power when done. 140-150bhp.
it depends on how far you want to go with the 1.6, i only didnt put the 2.0litre in because of costs at the time and also my age

yeh i dont fancy spending 250-300 on a 1.6 16v engine then been disapointed cos it aint much quicker than my 1.4roughly how much am i looking at to fit an xe or mabe 2.0 8v

around £300 for just the conversion kit (mounts shafts etc)
also need new exhaust made up.
engine, loom, ecu
labour.
brakes
uprated suspension
also c20xe engines are older and hard to find one with low miles, whereas the x16xe can be found rather easy for low miles.

There are reasons to go for the 1600 and it is 16bhp more powerful straight away before you mod it. No messing with mounts, gearbox, shafts etc.
The only reason not to do it is if you're planning to go to 150bhp any time in the future you'll spend far more getting there if you're basing it on a 1.6.

other positive is that the 1.6 will handle better as it is lighter in the front end

Yeah although that's also a bit of a myth that the 2 litre ruins it, suspension can be adjusted to get handling back.
