Hi guys just a word of warning after being pulled on the M62 near leeds at around 17:30

I have my reg with a number as P8O PW but it should be P8 OPW - so I did ask for it in way

An unmarked volvo police car pulled me over and question my plate

Asked me to step out the car and sit in his car. After some discussion and being very polite he advised I had 3 options

1. Fixed penaly with letter to the DVLA
2. Letter to the DVLA with possible plate being removed from my possesion and fine up to 1k
3. Bit of a suck eggs lecture and a slip to take to an MOT tester when I have put proper plates on. They ahd to stamp the slip and send it to the police to verify i have used the correct plates

luckily I got option 3. Police man was very fair and polite

However be aware of the following. I had standard UK font but they looked 3D - by this I mean no shadow just the way they look.

I had no offical british regs in the right hand corner or supplier name across the bottom

They are running a scheme from now until March

So be warned. Please no replies to say I derserved this as i know my plates are not legal but they have been like this for 3 years with no hassle

Hope this information helps as they are really cracking down on it

yes I believe so

i was told its needs the dealerships name or the name of the supplier of either the vehicle of the registration plate

My mate is an MOT tester and I saw him before. They were issued guidelines to fail cares that did not comply but the number of people of who have complained to the DVLA as resulted in cars that do not meet all 3 criteria cannot fail an MOT. However it must have legal font and spacing

yes - they remove and re-issue another plate

Whether its a cherised reg or normal reg the DVLA own the plate so have the right to remove it at any time if it does not conform to the V796 form

Exactly the same Andy

Mine went through MOT like that with a load of scuff marks to

I think you'd have to find a copper whos wife had cheated on him with his dad, he's just been demoted and can no longer afford his house so is gonna have to move, his mum his in hospital, and his dog died last night, then he may be JUST pissed off enough to pull you for not having a post code and BSAU number on your otherwise legal plates.

I've always just had the reg number and nothing else, I've been pulled 5 times in 2 years, and they've never been mentioned, even my old ones where the backing had come away slightly and had a big black line down it

I have been caught 4 times with illegal spacing/too small plates

The police can only give you the option of either a £30 fine OR a slip to have them changed and stapmed buy a MOT approved garage. They CANNOT give you both at the same time. They can also advise the DVLA of the constant law breaking with could lead you to loosing the plate and the money you spent on it.

I have now just put standard UK font plates on (except there stamped metal ones ) never had a bit of bothger with them tho *touches wood*

I'll advise my brother to leave his car at home for a bit then, he barely uses it anyway

His is spaced P6LL B on the front, on his old car he had it spaced like that but also had an illegal 6 which didn't have the top part, and he had a few srcews in naughty places. The first time there was a copper behind him he got pulled and got a vehicle rectification form, so when he got his new car he just got the front one spaced as above but kept the rear legal, he's had a few funny looks off police but cos it's only the front plate, when they're behind they don't realise

I think it's all kicking off with the mis-spacing because of the ANPR systems, apparently they won't pick them up properly if they are not the legal font and spaced correctly
