why do people do this?

There's been enough scientific evidence conducted to prove that mobiles/wireless communications has no effect whatsoever on the brain.

Do people not think about the radiowaves travelling through our head all the time from BBC Radio 1?

You absorb more radiation stood under a light bulb than you do with a phone next to your head
