what are people opinons on them? noone say get a golf because there 3 insurance groups higher for the same engine and spec.
anything i should look out for if buying one?
what is the 2.0ltr petrol engine like?

2.0 is not even worth looking at its a 8v irric get the 1.8t look quite good when lowerd on some euro rims

almost exactly the same as a golf. pretty much all the engines are good and with them being lower insurance than the golf you can get a bigger engine
what about a 1.9tdi ? 130bhp

the desiels go for £1000 pound more and i cant afford that plus higher insurance aswell.
not looking for ultra speed etc just want comfy retures a good mpg and reliable.

i like them. ive been looking into the 2.8 v6 4motions. nice cars and you get alot of car for the money

AVOID the 2.0 8v at all costs.. we have seen them in at 40k needing a new piston rings.. wear so badly vw have made modified ones

was lookng for one of these, but got an ibiza instead. Really nice cars and supposedly handle better than the golfs, and imo they look better than the golf

i had a V5 for a week or two, what can i say its a very good car but i wouldnt buy one.
it does nothing wrong but is just not inspiring to drive at all

its amk4 golf in a less desirable shell, and therefore cheaper
oh, and i wouldnt buy any petrol version TBH, diesel is the way forwards

close friend has a 130 tdi, very very nice car IMO, and i would own one.
Only things to look out for or hear for more likely on a test drive are knocks and bangs on the suspension, make sure you go down a rough road and listen, rear and front bushes as well as track rod ends wear quite easily on them.
and getting one without the cam belt being due is a bonus as its quite an expensive and labour intesive task to get done.
