I don't get paid overtime for the first 2 years or so while i'm still a graduate, but knew that would be the case before I started it. Alot of places don't pay overtime, simply for the fact that the work coulld be done during the hours of 9-5, but the few spoil it for the majority and take the piss, meaning no-one can have it. E.g. the bloke where I work who doesn't work a minute past 5, but comes in for 2-3 hours every sunday on double pay to do nothing that couldn't wait for Monday .

I probably do 1-2 hours over time a week, but then my job doesn't usually involve doing stuff that's critical to the buisness as i'm in the support staff.

I'd have thought that most people who do unpaid OT, only do it to try and keep in their managers good books, and therefore improve their chances of a payrise/promotion .

get paid 37.5 hours a week

usually work 42-45

no overtime pay but flexi to some extent

on good salary, and work HAS to be done on time

work on a 24/7/365 chemical site (IT department)

also looks good at pay reviews, bonus time and promotions

I get paid overtime. Been doing an extra hour every night for the past few weeks.
1. Adds up nicely over a month
2. There is easily enough work to warrant it yet most people are out the door at 5 sharpish
3. My journey home takes 15 mins less due to less traffic in town
4. My directors have always said they like people that put in the extra hours, even if it means them paying overtime - so like M2RTY said it looks good at my pay reviews - I know from experience if you work hard for them they reward you
