You can't have speed without paying silly amounts of money for fuel.

Do he do a lot of miles of just a bit of the old town driving?

astra sri cdti 150; went in a vectra 150 and that was rapid. Went out in an astra 1.7 and that handled well and I am told by someone at work, it is one of the best cars he has driven when it's in sport mode

is he after a brand new car or a used one? what budget??

If brand new or nearly new i would have an Astra T9

if a lower budget then i would have a Fabia VRS or possibly a Golf or other VAG

bmw 320/330d

Astra/fabia/ibiza/Golf are not what I would defne as comfy in the slightest.

The BM's are leagues ahead and are great to drive too. They have strong re-sale due to their popularity also.

iv got a mate with a golf tdi 140, and another with a 120d, the golf feels easily as nice and was very comfy when we did a 340mile round trip the other day for my wheels. He did have it specced up from new though

The 1 Series is not renound for its comfort coupled with run flat tyres doesnt help its cause.

I still maintain the 320/330d is miles ahead of hum drum VW's or any other VAG family hatch.
