iv started travelling a fair bit to work and back and the 12v just cant hack the motor ways, so im looking for something with a bit more go thats reliable andfairly economical not fussed if diesle or petrol for arounfd 3k mark

Yeah one of the later ones, I think they do them up to 2002. I was considering one, then dug deeper to get the golf!

pug HDi engines are prone to so many problems..

Id do exactly the same, well i'm planning to when I finally get some money coming in and some saved up! Both options i'd remap though, nothing agressive, just so they unleash a bit more poke for when your that way inclined.

Are they? I spend loads of time on a 306 forum with a very active diesel section and i've not seen many problems at all.

the 306 needs it imo, its 92bhp without, 115ish with a none aggressive one, makes all the difference in normal driving. The golf's don't need it half as much although i'd still be inclined to do it.

yes..
dampened crank pullys give up breaking drive belt, which goes through a hole in the cam cover, totally fu(king things up.
dual mass flywheels give up.
injectors go out of tune...
just a few of the many faults.

VAG is sooo much more reliable.
