Went for a job interview, and i have now been offered a job. However, to start with it's a temp position, sort of like a probation period to see if i'm any good, and if i am i'll get a contract with 3 weeks or so. However, if i take the job, it means quitting my current job, now this is a BIG risk, as in a few weeks i don't want to be stuck with no job. It's much better work, it's a big company, more money, and everything is just much more positive. Now, do i take the risk or not?

Are you likely to be good at the job? Are they likely to keep you on?
I would take the risk.

Being construction industry at this time of year you will find deadlines need met for christmas therefore extra staff required. After xmas the temps get bumped off because there isnt as much work.
Something to consider !

This is normally true. However, during the interview they told me they don't have much work on at the moment due to it being the christmas period, as there getting ready to shut down for x-mas. The position was not advertised, i wrote to them due to me be un-happy in my current job.

You can only decide yourself. Are you happy with the people you are working with now etc?
I'd say take a chance though.

You can decide from the interview tbh. I turned a few places down as i didn't think the jobs were for me in terms of progression or wouldn't like the place of work conditions.
Place i work at now is great. Plenty of office banter, the boss is sound, and they are doing everything they promised they would do much sooner than they initially stated.
I'm on a 3 month trial but just finished week 6 and my boss said i'm doing very well.
Female bosses are also a little more understanding when you have problems. They are not as heatless as us blokes
Only you can make the decision! I had a really hard one to make when i got offered two jobs i really liked the sound of. Think i made the right decision though,

If they've offered you something they must think you're OK, they just want to know hence the probation period. If you're unhappy in your current job then this itself means it's time to move on, just make sure you do well in the new place.
If it doesn't work out it isn't like you'll never work again - and at least you won't be where you are not happy.

Exactly... They'll only not take you on after the trial period if you do something stupid / are utterly crap. The amount it costs them in time and effort to do advertise for a job, interview people, screen them and then finally choose someone... to do that, just to say 'Good bye' after 3 weeks is not worth their time.
The reason they have the probation is just to protect themselves, so that if for instance you got given a 12 month contract, and then were completely useless, they'd have far more hassle giving you the boot!
