The fact is, there's no cure for the common cold, so people are still buying stuff that doesnt cure them, whether its made from witches brew or in tablet form.

Yes, I know this, my point isnt about what people would buy, what its made out of, or even if it really works or not.

My main point is that if the mixture you posted up did actually work then a large company would of put it in a packet by now and be selling it as a cure to the common cold. But seems they havent, all these old wives tales - as you mentioned - are purely that.

There was another 'Old Wives Tale':

On the old London Buses, people used to get travel sick, so they gave out these bags to breathe into that were apparently a miracle cure for travel sickness. People used the bags and were no longer travel sick - CURED you might say. The fact is, all these bags had in them were some herbs that smelt nice, there was no miracle cure, but it still stopped people from being travel sick, and thats a fact.

No bigwig Pharmaceutical ever sold them and made millions.

Apparently, for 'high street' vitamin C tablets to be effective, you have to consume silly amounts. The same with oranges. Specialist health shops that sell 'strong' vitamin C are the only effective ones.

Its slightly harder to sell people bags to breath into than a sythetic mix you put into a drink that mimics the natural cure you posted up earlier.

Anyway, the point still stands that if the receipe really worked then it would now be sold under multiple brand names and their would not really be much common cold.
