for a long time it was easier to get big power out of a C20LET its only been recently that over 300BHP+ was achievable from the Z20LET or Z20LEH.
This was the main reason as well as cost of a C20LET why people went down this route. Its been done a few times and more commonly in hatch backs than coupes.
In this particualar case an oppertunity arrived which meant it could be done for litle cash

Looks a nice car and its different - sometimes thats more than enough reason to do it

did I say it was steve?
Or was I informing you as to why people did this kind of mod in general, and in this particular case because the engine was his brothers and it cost him very little to do?
Please read again, and once you realise that just because somethings are easier or more cost effective to do them the way you, or anyone else would think is the best way, does not mean they have to.
We dont all worry about money, and re-sale, and what other people think - we just enjoy ourselves and our hobby

i'll bet the main reason was cos it was cheaper fo him to insure that than a real turbo coupe "still registered as a 1.8" means it was probably insured as a 1.8

Not in my opinion it isnt.
Much more development on the C20LET...
Better gearbox too.
Im sure i na few years the Z20LET will be a better comparison

Yeah, that always follows
How many miles had Joff's engine done when it spat the dummy out? How many has my engine from 1983 done without spitting the dummy out?
I assume if the C-LET was rebuilt it wouldn't be as reliable as a 60k Z-LET either

Yes, don't you think they'd have the same issues with Z-LET conversions too?
It's nothing to do with the engine itself, it's the fact that most people don't change simple things when they do the conversion.
You don't know if that Astra has an engine with new gaskets, belts and seals, which would make it better than an untouched Z-LET of the same mileage.
Old doesn't always mean crap.

Depends if it's done by a weekend mechanic, or a pro.
