Dosen't come as much suprise

a friend of my dad got an 'E' reg 316

202k on the clock (last time he was here about 2-3 months ago) -- had nothing except Mobil 1 oil

Still runs like brand new (trying to get him to sell it!)

Neither my old 1.4 8v nor 1.7 CDTI burn any noticeable amount of oil .
