Im looking for tips on how to sell Unsecured Loans to customers as it could possibly earn me some good bonus's however the way i come across at the moment is getting a bad response and most customers end up biting my head off

Im personally agianst offering this product to random customers but the people that are doing it seem to be getting quite a few sales and seem to have the 'gift of the gab' so to speak.

I work as a savings and investment advisor for a bank btw

The fact that you are against it is probably coming through in your body language/tone of voice. There's not an awful lot you can do about that if you feel strongly about it.

Telephone, and my job is not sales based its just theres a possibility of earning a bit more money by offering these products...

agreed that its perhaps coming accross in the tone of my voice, im at work untill 8 so will try with the next one to keep my tone consistant to see it it helps although its probably just luck of the draw.

This is what ive been trying..

'Were currently offering unsecured loans with no repayments untill after christmas, is this somthing you would be interested in?'

but it just seems a bit long winded and scripted if that makes sense

The only reason I would say yes is if it were a lower rate.

Its not Barclays is it? They tried the whole - 'while you're on the phone' at the end of one of mine. I just said unless it's less than 6%, forget it.

You'll also annoy people if you say yeah it is as the typical is close to that then quote them 10% based on circumstances. That isn't the best news when you've been on the phone for half an hour already.

Yes the whole 'while ur on the phone' *high pitched voice* thing at the end of the call seems to put people off straight away.

It harder aswell because our rate isnt exactly competitive at over 7% typical, but its not my job to discuss rates etc, that the sales team, i just have to persuade the customer to go through for a quote.

Plus its scary when they come back at you guns blazing for asking

Tbh, the way I see it is you aren't keen on the product you're selling. So if you aren't enthusiastic about it, then the potential buyers won't be either. Sound positive about it, maybe read out a couple of stats (if it IS actually a good loan). Some folk would like the fact it is an unsecured loan. Basically instead of waiting for them to say no, try to bum it up enough that you'll be surprised if they reject it

That's another thing mate. If you had one bad call, then chances are you'll go onto the next thinking the same. Remember, these folk don't know that you've just had a bad call, so go into each one believing you can get a sale. And don't be bothered if you get abuse, that's a part of the fun. They don't know where you stay

I worked in a sales environment before on the phone, i was like you, and i was shit at it, hated phoning people up as I was worried I was annoying them (worked in the business department so not too bad, but you still phoned little places like barbers who you know are more than likely to be too busy) anyway, sales is a thing you either have or you don't. I used to listen to how other people did it, and try and use their methods but it still never worked. Generally its the more crooked people who are good at sales as they "bend" the truth a bit, usually to get them interested at first, things like saying "this offer only applies to certain customers such as yourself" to get them interested etc.
What you need to do though is avoid the more closed questions, like the "are you interested in" as more than likely they will just say no, then your done. If you start talking but pause because you think they are going to say no, they will just say no.

I've done recruitment getting people along to focus groups where they were getting paid £80 for an hour. I felt like a fraud defending myself when they didn't beleive me suppose that's more to do with the time we live in

I think a lot of it is down to the sort of person you arw and agree you need to be a bit hard faced but do think with a bit of advice i can persuade a few people, i get £10 for 1 loan, £30 for 2 and £50 for 3 so thats £90 if i got 3loans in one month

Find out about the customer's interests, etc. and put ideas into their heads about all the stuff they could buy with the loan... holiday, new car, etc...

thats the worst bit, I once did a women a quote and she saved 700 quid a week as she had shit loads of premises, all legit. After about 5 phone calls to close the deal, weeks later she decided she wasn't bothered. Fuck knows how morons like that actually get to a job where they have to make decisions.
