As it was my first go on a track day I took insurance out, cost me £105 for the day. Also I use my car for work so had to make sure I was covered if anything went wrong.

Because it was my first time on track (in my own car) I paid an extra £25 for an instructor to come out with me, he explained everything about when to brake, change down and turn in etc which helped a lot. I knew a little already from a previous driving experience but that wasn't at Brands.

As for brakes and tyres, I had fitted Ferrodo DS2500 a couple of months before so they were fine, never suffered any brake fade but again as it was my first track day I wasn't pushing that hard. With tyres though, I bought 4 brand new Goodyear Eagle F1's about a month before and that was a bit of a mistake Because the depth on the tread was so deep (being new) they got very hot and melted

Last thing as well is try and go for a novice day, I went when there were full on track day E30 M3's going about, which were great to watch but I spent a lot time letting them overtake, still had a lot of fun though!

cheers

Brilliant mate- thats just what im looking for -- the abingdon airfield is visable from my house- I knew they did track days there but I had no idea who ran them or if they were any good........ Going to give them a ring and book I think - seems exactly what im looking for

Have you been to the Abingdon one -- how much track time did you get on the one you went to?

Think im going to book up for the 7th december

£89 for the day 10am-4pm
£20 for 20 minutes with an instructer
£10 for a crash helmet.
40 car limit- 14 on the track at any one time

Its two minutes from my house, I know the airfield well because I learnt to drive on it and used to rag my nova round when you could get away with it.

Its not a particularly interesting course but its a nice wide track with massive runoff areas and the day seems to be run in the right spirit

I was going to book up for that one at abingdon but got my mrs crimbo do that evening.
So I've booked up for Colerne on the 3rd.
Like I said easy to deal with company who do organise really good days. The one good thing about airfields is theres not alot to hit and huge run of areas, although they can be quite abrasive on the tyres.

When I went out at Combe it was my first go on a track ever.

Great fun, got to push the car a bit and had a few pics taken! I wasn't pushing as hard as I could though and was just really having a laugh. My car had been out of the bodyshop for three weeks when I got on track!

Silly question, but do you ever get limited by the car you choose to take.

Say you wanted to take a slow as hell 1 litre, can you?

ps. I don't want to, just interested to know

no reason why you cant.... but you'll be cursing it along on the straights

If its slow enough to be warranted a hazzard on track they may turf you off

Oh right

Honestly, not wanting to do it, just thought it'd be a bit shit if you're there in your skyline and someone in front in their granny wagon is holding you up at every turn

but with that much difference it would be a simple pass on a straight.... no real problem, unless you were actually getting in peoples way (not moving out of the way)

I'm definately going on a track day when I eventually get my S2K

Would love to do one now, but ain't gonna use my current car and can't justify the expense of one off hiring a car
