My cars started running really rubbish (1.4 sport) - setting off from junctions is a nightmere in 1st gear untill it gets to atleast 3500rpm. hardly pulls away, Slight hills that i would normally cruise up in second is now changing to first gear. Really sluggish through the lower revs. It also idles very low when i first start up. Anyone got any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated

does it idle lumpy at all? have you tryed the paper clip test?

so idles lumpy, and havent done the paper clip test, basicaly the paper clip test will tell you what falt codes are in the cars brain, it will flash the EML on a certen number of times which will indicate the code number,
but quick thing to check is the spark plugs, take them out and check the ends if they are black on the end of 1 or 2 plugs this will mean the cylinders that the plug came from arnt firing propperly.

ahh yer i know that now. no the plugs are fine. I had it on the computer at work and no faults were found. Might change the coil and plug leads as i have spares and also change the idle control valve/motor. Yes the speedo works!!??!!

i would just check the plugs first if they are coked up then you will know something like the hego might be up the swanny, also what engine is the car running?

yer the cars running, ive changed plugs, leads, coil. asif no-one knows wot else could b up with it!

EGR valve, cat could be blocked, hego/lambda gone down.
also check the vacume hoses runnign into the inlet manifold mine were split and this caused it to drive crap, also check the exhaust manifold gasket.
has the car got any mods?
