so, I am supose to be going to germany this weekend by Boat and driving to germany! (Not me driving!, i cant even drive to essex properly let alone germany!)

and basically my passport runs out 10th November!
I know with Flying, that most airlines say that your passport needs to be 6-9 months valid upon your return blahblah
so doyou think that rule still applys going to germany on a boat?

I'm not sure, but if you're really worried about it, you can get a new one for about £100 same day, plus you get a nice day trip to london.

aslong as the return date is within a few days of the expiration of the passport then you should be OK. I think the main reason airlines say so long is incase something happens whilst your over there and you need to stay.

Normally the passport needs to have at least as long on it as is granted to you under temporary visa on entry to the country.
Also if its a flexible return ticket you would need it valid up until the latest possible return date on the boat. I know on the tunnel they do this and I would imagine they can't sell you a ticket if you could potentially not be legal out there.
Edit - you are legal if you have a visa, you just can't come home.

I paid £96 last year to get my passport within 7 days. Was a first passport though so might have been a bit more expensive. I hate spending money

You don't even need a passport to travel within the EU. In theory

you can get away with showing a driving licence - well like ed said, thats the theory
I've known people to get away with using a driving licence within the uk, but never to mainland europe.
But if you're going this weekend and the passport runs out on the 10th, then whats the problem? just get one when you're back

I thought it was only places that you needed a visa for that insisted you had 6 months left on your passport. You should be fine
