I know this is not a kit car forum but thought i'd get a general opinion.
I am currently planning to build a kit car in the very near future. but i have a dilemma with engine options:
option 1: I have a 30,000mile 1.6 pushrod escort mk1 engine in the garage but registration for the car would be Lm4200 (approx. £6,837.81)
option 2: I can buy a 2nd hand hayabusa engine for less than £2500 including shipping to Malta and registration is Lm2200 (approx. £3,581.71)
as a side note... the car will be used on sunny days and evenings only and maybe an occational hill climb event.
I know this may sound obvious... just getting some general opinions
thanks in advance for comments

ford 2.0 zetec on throttle bodies. best kit car engine I have had on the dyno, cheap, reliable, smooth power and 200 bhp.

thanks for that dave but if i dont use the engine i have, i will go for a bike engine. also with the 1.6 i could get 170bhp 'easily' with a fullrace setup and some other mods (so i was told. i thought full race gave 145bhp but appertly you can get more)

The only issue with a bike engine is the reversing box is expensive, however, you'll have 6 forward gears and 6 reverse gears, which is nice
I'd go for the bike engine if it's cheaper when you've got everything (let's face it, it's better than the pushrod Ford however you look at it)

robin, you don't need to do that, you can buy electric reverse - or some work on a starter motor.
Or you could lean out and push it with your hand on the floor..

thanks for that dave. 200 bhp - n/a i assume?
you're right robin.. guess i should have included that in the calculation above.
still though the pushrod i dont want to throw it away. a 30year old engine which till last year used to start first time and runs perfectly.... might have to buy an escort at some point inlife i suppose! :S
