The thieves broke in via a small perspex window on one of our goods in bay doors. The window is tiny, much less than 1m wide, and about 40cm high! Anyway they disloged it and clambered in. The intruder alarm went off, and our security firm called the site manager who got out of bed and drove to the building.
Got there to find 2 police man walking around the perimeter of the buidling. They couldn't see where they'd got into the warehouse, so the site manager opened up, walked in and turned the lights on. Upon turning the lights on the thieves, who were still inside, got spooked and ran, which was heard by the cops who were below them on a different floor. The two policeman ran up seperate flights of stairs but the thieves had ran down the back of the warehouse and out a fire exit.
It's very suspicious though as they knew exactly where to find the laptops. Each one is locked up in a different part of the building. They knew where to look and broke the locks. They did this in near pitch black conditions.
They then knew where the back stairs where, nobody would've known this unless you'd been to our building. They are out of sight.
They ran out of a fire exit that adjoins the road, not the nearest exit to the stairs which they fled down.
Very strange. Had police dusting for prints and stuff all day. I expect an ex-temp or someone to get arrested as it's too dodgey to be random.
All this happened at 2am, and they were in the building for more than 11mins, as the police took 11mins to arrive.
I think they got away with half a dozen laptops in the end. Nothing else.
Very eventful day.
