Author Headlight failing - can anyone help?!!

I have just bought a 1.2 16v club (51 reg). When driving at night the headlights keep failing, they go off for several seconds before coming back on. it has been in a vauxhall garage 3 times now, they said they had fixed it, but it has since done it again.
Has anyone experienced this before? and can it be fixed?
