I find it so hard to believe thats vauxhalls 16v petrol engines are that crap for fuel?

Everyone used to say the 8v engine were crap on fuel, but my old 1.4 8v corsa managed 440miles to a tank (thats when the fuel light came on - 48mpg) on long motorway runs.

My boyfriend had the 1.6 Sport petrol used to piss through it although it was overfuelling and he wasnt the most sensible driver in it...
