raises blood pressure, makes you retain water (doesnt help with weight loss) although in all fairness its no big deal really, unless your a pro bodybuilder who does competetions then you dont want to be holding any water 
edit: only doesnt help with weight loss because you hold water it makes you heavier, can seem that your not losing any weight etc. This is why some people drop like 5/6lbs in a week when they first start a diet because they have low sodium the water retention dies down

its ok to eat now and then, but i wouldnt put it as a staple in your diet.

There are healthier beef jerkys out there, can go to your local south african shop (if you got one) and get some there (or biltong its better) or you could get the stuff off www.myprotein.co.uk
The ones from tescos are full of salt and preservatives
