Took my car to a mates garage for a pre MOT and said if it cost anymore than £150 to repair parts give me a ring, so 8.30 in the morning i get a phone call "we have found out why your enginge light is on", I thought great shouldnt be to expensive but he said that will cost £140 on its own. So i thought right stick it in for its MOT see what is wrong with it and fingers crossed that it would just fail on the engine light.
But surprise suprise it failed for steering plates, wheel bearings, front disk brakes but the garage can't just replace the disk they have to do the pads too more money. So in the end the total is £350 quid ouch
The worst thing is iam 17 my first car i brought it for £250 as it was a Cat C write off thought it would be a quick tidy up of the front of the car and it would be back on the road but no i had to get a new Caterlic converter, exhaust, wheels and tyres, radiator, slam panel, impact bar, bumper, bonnet, headlights, windscreen, passenger side door. And then i found out it had been lifted with a fork lift truck so had to hammer the bottom of my car out. And it's gotta go for a VIC/VIN check if it don't pass that i have wasted £1500.
Ok so i made the mistake of buying without looking but my dad had rang the bloke checked it all out and we thought for £250 was a bargin.
I have now spent £1500 on it and dont get me wrong its looking good but i could have brought a decent one by now that doesnt need any work doing on it i will have to put some pics up soon
Sorry about the essay needed to get it off my chest lol

They are in the engine bay or something to pads/plates not sure what there propper name is sorry. Yer i was going to do the front brakes myself but it would then cost me for a retest whereas if i leave it at the garage he will do the retet for free

So lets say 60 + 140 + 40 + 30 = 270 then add labour and VAT and its about £350

yeah but you wouldn't have learned anythin
i find the whole point of haveing a first car is to learn on it,
hence why my first car was a 750cc fiat panda built by me

no offence but you always damage your first car,
i clipped a kerb avoiding a person pulling out
no point having a expensive first car

well yer true but at the start we all thought it was going to be a cheap car and was hopeing it would cost £200-£300 to fix it but we kept finding things that needed replacing and in the end started costing alot more than we thought

I didnt damage my first or second cars (1.4LS and 1.4SRI) and nor did my GF
Is it really worth spending the money on then? Why not put it towards buying a car a little bit more expensive >£1000 that has a better chance of being alright?
