Hi.
I have a 1997 vauxhall vegas 5dr
when i start it up on the drive after a while it gose to the red on the temp
and today i let it go full on red hoping that the fans cut in as they have done before but they didnt so i just turned it off then when i got out it just let out steam no bangs or noises just a hising and a big load of steam just woundring do they have a valve that lets out the steam if it overheats as it starts and sounds sweat as a nut but has got me worried

listing what engine you have is more important than what model (vegas lol)
plus, your fans should come on at 100deg, so nowhere near the red!!!
check the usual stuff like thermostat, airlocks, coolant temp sensor

1997 1.4 petrol it went over the red but i have been told now that the valves in the header tank let out the steam and saved my car thank god but the fans arent kicking in so new switches i think it only overheat when stood still

Same happened with mine, was the thermostat

had me worried as i thought it cracked the engine but when i let it cool and the let it get realy hot no steam came out so it was the valves
