no neck brace either at the time and its what started them having to wear one as mandatory procedure.

you could say the same about senna's, looked minimal, but it was just unfortunate that part of the suspension broke off and killed him

It wasnt the wall that killed senna though, he hit the wall at a shallow angle, it was the tyre and suspension assembly that killed him

To be fair, that video is slowed down! So probably doing at least 120 + ...

Also, It's going sideways, when it hits a head on impact, so possibly the sideways force had moved his head away from the head restraint - so when he impacted he didn't have the sufficent neck support.

Before the HALO (?) came in, so the harnesses kept his body still in the seat, all the force of his head being flung forward on impact was like reverse whiplash but far more severe, and his neck vertebrae severed his spinal cord.

I think I have that right.

but the angle and the force looked small compared to alot of his previous crashes

unless the angle meant it made it worse

Franchitti had a pretty nasty accident in the indy car just a month or so ago abd walked away, shows how much technology and safety has came on

I think it was a bit of a freak accident tbh, one of those worst case scenario jobs.
