So, I was on the way back from my girlfriends house and I was just pulling onto my drive thinking "Im happy with this car now, it has everything i need its got central locking now, looks nice inside and everything... glad i wont need to spend any more money..."
Just as I thought that I pulled my handbrake on and it fucking snapped!!
Is this a costly fix? I hope not
Any advice appreciated...

Handbrake cable is a bastard to do if its a while since its been changed, putting off doing mine
Not expensive for one though, quite easy to do if you can get the car on a ramp.
Did you install the central locking yourself? Get it all working fine, boot etc too?

Central locking works fine! no boot though... least now i dont have to lean over and open the door for people!
On the subject of things snapping... How much is a new cam belt? iv never changed mine and my cars just doen 70k :S Id rather pay so much now than pay for a new engine...

Ahh, I see. Boot will be an utter bastard to do, as the wiring would be hard to run through the car, lots of work.
What engine?

Quite easy then, 8v's are the easiest engines to work on ever.
Depends if you have any mechanical knowlage, what tools you have etc. Kit is about £30 odd.

When my handbrake cable snapped I took it to a local customs garage and they fixed it for a small sum.

garage would charge about 1 hours labour to fit a new one and about £30 for the cable.

may as well get new rear bearings in while they do it as the rear drums need to come off anyway.

handbrake cable wont be expensive to change at all.
cam belt will be about £30-£50 for a kit and its easy to do if you have a bit of knowledge, if not, I'd recommend getting a garage to do it but they'd charge an hour or 2 labour. if you fuck it up you'l throw the valve timing out and kill your engine
