Just finished re-furbishing one of the wheels for my car today.
Primed:

Painted:

Used Hammerite on top of the primer and it didn't seem to dry properly (think it should have just been used direct to metal). So decided to laquer it to protect it...then this happened:

Looks awesome imo, just not sure if it'll survive the tyre machine, lol!

Looks proper weird!
Last set of wheels I painted was on my ST Vectra and they were fine. Used normal car primer, paint and laquer and they were flaweless. Guess Hammerite wasn't the tool for the job!
The finish on the wheels seems tough enough. The pattern has set hard and doesn't seem to flake off. Will see what happens when I try and stick a tyre on it

That looks really quite cool.
But the long and the short is iirc hammerite is designed to go direct to metal and so the primer stopped the reaction between the metal and paint from happening and so it didnt dry. Then when you lacquered it, things all got a tad crazy.
How ever, its quite a nice looking cock up by all accounts.

it was the laquer that fucked it, not the hamerite/primer

JR: You recon the laquer was off or something then? I just thought it was because Hammerite wasn't supposed to be laquered.
Looks awesome on the rockers covers above
