i've been to barcelona, i went when i was too young to appreciate it so was massively bored. i'd like to go back now though

Amen to that. I went last February for a week. Loved the place and it was such a nice area but fuck me you have to be on guard all the time.
Me and 3 friends i was with (1 guy, 2 girls) went to a club, which may I add was a shit dirty back alley club. When we came out of the club at 3am or so we had to walk through all these alleys, big open alleys but still classed as an alley.
Group of about 7/8 tramps/pikeys walk around the corner towards us, i expected them to cause trouble so was on egde already. Then one of the guys shakes my hand and says "Barcelona, barcelona" as i shook his hand the others put there hands in all my pockets in my jeans, even the little pocket inside the pocket if you get me, they picked me up of the ground like carrying someone, i had my passport on me (for ID - stupid i know).
Thinking i was gonna get it knicked i start lashing out and punching them in the head/face and finally they dropped me, at this time my "mate" wasn't helping me and they carried on walking at first, he then decided to run back and try to help (he doesnt know how to fight and is small so i dont blame him), they saw he was an easier target and focused on him, managed to get his passport and starting running off so i chased the kid with it and managed to get a swift kick to the thigh in to slow him down then wrestled him to the ground, he gave the passport back and they all ran off. By this time the 2 girls had run and got some police to come, guess what... they tried blaming it on me and were going to arrest me. But thank fuck luckily some people in the presinct came over (they were spanish) and explained it wasn't my fault and they let me go.
Wasn't a pleasant experience, and the next day i thought back and realised it was stupid to fight back as they could of had a knife or anything and 7/8 vs me i wasn't going to win, but in those situations you dont have time to think and just react, and from my martial arts background that time is even quicker when making choices. I got lucky that they didn't get away with any passports as i dont know what would of happened (it was our 2nd to last day to)
Anyway... next day one of the girls i was with got her purse pickpocketed the next morning  bastards.
In fairness though London is just as bad and i can expect spanish people say that about us to.

Indeed, you just have to be on guard.. Same as in London really but I guess it's worse out there because you can't speak the language.
I've been twice, just recently got back last week and I absolutely love the place.
