if i buy a car that had an engine conversion, not a massive one just from a 1.2 to a 1.4.
the log book has been changed will my insurance be able to recognise the fact its changed to a 1.4 and insure me on this?
dont want no surprises if i get pulled and checked. i want it to be legit

When you speak to the insurer, they should confirm what they are insuring with regards to engine size, seats, how many doors etc!
If they say 1.2 then just correct them, but they will see that as a performance mod wont they? and then it costs a bit extra

i understand it would be extra but am not clear if my current insurer will insure me. do most companies offer insurance for these situations, eg already been converted cars

If you register the car as a 1.2 and its got a bigger engine on the log book, its as good as not having insurance tbh...
Loads of people put the 1.6's / 2.0's / 3.0's in the corsa's, but don't put them on the log book.

i plan to change the log book, but when i phone the insurance just wondered if it would appear on their computer as what ive changed it to, just so if i got pulled it would all be legit with the insurers

If its on the logbook as a 1398cc engine, when the insurance takes the reg, if they search the reg plate it should come up as 1398cc.
But most ask for make/model etc(and dont use the reg plate to get the details), if they do that you'll have to tell them its had a conversion.
Not all companies cover conversions, in fact very few do. Ring and check first.
